Eligibility:
Easthampton
High School is a part of the Howell K. Thayer Chapter of the National
Honor Society. Election is based on character, scholarship, leadership,
as well as service to the commmunity and school during a student's high
school career. Selection of candidates will be made in the fall of their
Junior and Senior year. Induction into the National Honor Society will
be held following the selection of candidates. Faculty members serve
on the selection committee. Students who acheived a 3.5 GPA and have
a Proficient or better on the math and english portions of the 10th
grade MCAS are invited to apply.
How to Apply:
A notice
will be sent to all eligible students after the first marking period
in their Junior year. Students must write three essays which are then
reviewed by the faculty members who serve on the selection committe.
The names of the students are not given to the teachers; and respectively
students are not told which faculty members are serving on the committee.
Each essay is a synopsis of why the student believes he or she should
be selected into the Howell K. Thayer chapter of the National Honor
Society. The student is to write one essay regarding their character,
one essay remarking their leadership, and a third focusing on the student's
service to the community. The student is asked not to be modest when
writing their essays.

Benefits:
There
are many benefits to being a member of the National Honor Society. To
name a few; National Honor Society Members are distrobuted a hall pass
which enables them to leave class without their agenda book, members are
also permitted to leave during their lunch period. National Honor Society
members are trusted by the staff and are often asked to perform special
tasks. Many of the National Honor Society members are asked to tutor other
students. Members also receive respect from the community as they assist
the members of the community in many activities.
